Health In UK
A. You are staying in the State where your studies take place
At least 15 days before your departure, ask for the European health insurance card (EHIC) at your primary health insurance fund to obtain medical care during your stay. On site, medical costs will be covered under the same conditions as for insured persons from the local social security scheme.
To obtain the CEAM (in French), you must be insured with the French system, that is to say:
Family member (up to the age of 20) or insured for residence in France. Note that it is the French health insurance fund which is competent to determine the opening of the right for residence in France.
NB: The condition of residence in France is deemed to be fulfilled when the source of the student's income comes from France. In this case the student is considered to be temporarily staying in the State where he is studying.
All non-EU students must have health insurance coverage with international validity while studying in England in order to be approved for the permit of stay.
B. During your stay: in case of medical care
To prove your rights to health insurance, present your EHIC or your provisional replacement certificate. You will benefit from the assumption of responsibility of your medical care according to the legislation and the formalities in force in the country of stay:
either you do not have to advance medical expenses;
or you must advance medical expenses and you will be reimbursed on site by the social security organization of the place of stay.
Have you paid for medical expenses on placement?
You needed medical care during your stay and you had to pay for it on the spot because you did not have your EHIC, or you made advance medical expenses and you did not ask for reimbursement on the spot, or you used private medicine.
For each of these situations, you may be able to be reimbursed on your return to France.
Remember to keep the paid invoices and payment receipts and send them, along with form S3125 Care received abroad (PDF), to your student health insurance or to your Health Insurance fund.
You will be reimbursed on the basis of the rates in force in the State of stay and within the limit of the expenses incurred.
Note that you can choose to be reimbursed according to French law by indicating it on form S3125.
C. In the event of an accident at the study site
You are enrolled in a university or higher education institution in France and you are part of an exchange program (eg Erasmus).
As a student, you benefit from occupational accident protection if the accident occurs during a course given by the host university.
In the event of an accident occurring in one of the courses provided by your host university, you must inform your university or your higher education establishment in France which will make the declaration of work accident at the Insurance Fund Disease on which it depends.
